Abdalelah Haroun Hassan ( Arabic عبد الإله هارون, DMG ʿAbd al-Ilāh Hārūn ; * January 1, 1997 in Sudan ; †  June 26, 2021 in Qatar ) was a Qatari sprinter from Sudan who specialized in the 400-meter run and was eligible to compete internationally for Qatar from 2015.

Athletic career

Abdalelah Haroun gained his first experience at international championships at the 2015 Arab Championships in Madinat Isa , where he won the gold medal over 400 meters, as well as at the Asian Championships in Wuhan some time later, where he also won the Qatari relay. In 2016 he won the gold medals over 400 meters and with the Qatari 4 x 400 meter relay at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha . This qualified him for the World Indoor Championships in Portland , where he was able to win the silver medal behind the Czech Pavel Maslák . In July 2016, he won the gold medal at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, and qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he reached the semi-finals . A year later he took part in the World Championships in London and won the bronze medal there in 44.48 s. At the beginning of September he won the gold medal in the 400-meter run and silver with the Qatari relay at the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat . He also started over 800 meters, but was eliminated in the semifinals.

In 2018 he took part in the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran , where he again won gold medals over 400 meters and with the relay. A month later he was considered a favorite at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , but in the first round he was disqualified for breaking the designated path. At the Müller Anniversary Games in London, he improved his own national record to 44.07 seconds.At the end of August, he won the Asian Games in Jakarta in 44.89 seconds ahead of the Indian Muhammed Anas and he also won the Qatari relay with a new Asian record of 3 : 00.56 min the gold medal. He then also won the Athletics Continental Cup in Ostrava in 44.72 seconds. Due to an injury, Haroun was unable to compete for the entire season, but started at the home world championships in Doha in early October and was eliminated there with 47.76 seconds Forward off.

Haroun was killed in a traffic accident in Qatar on June 26, 2021 at the age of 24.
