Kunhu Muhammed Puthanpurakkal (born March 5, 1987 in Mannarkkad , Kerala ) is an Indian athlete who specializes in the 400-meter run .

Athletic career

Kunhu Muhammed gained his first international experience at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi , where he finished seventh in the Indian 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 07.60 min. He then finished fourth with the relay at the Asian Games in Guangzhou in 3: 06.49 min. The following year he won the bronze medal with the relay at the World Military Games in Rio de Janeiro and made it to the semi-finals in the 400-meter run , in which he was eliminated with 48.60 seconds. Two years later he reached fifth place over 400 meters at the Asian Championships in Pune and fourth place with the Indian relay. In 2014 he took part again with the relay at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , but was disqualified there in the run-up. He then finished seventh in the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, in 46.53 seconds and fourth in the relay in 3: 04.61 minutes.

In 2016 he won the relay at the South Asian Games in Guwahati and silver over 400 meters. With the relay he qualified for the first time for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , in which he was disqualified in advance for a rule violation. The following year he celebrated his greatest success so far with the relay victory in 3: 02.92 min at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar . The quartet qualified for the World Championships in London , where they eliminated with 3: 02.80 minutes in the first round . In 2018, the Indian relay took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta and won the silver medal behind the team from Qatar in 3: 01.85 minutes. The following year he was disqualified with the Indian relay at the Asian Championships in Doha. He then retired from the World Relays in Yokohama with 3: 06.05 minutes in advance and at the end of October he reached fourth place at the Military World Games in Wuhan in 3: 06.81 minutes.

In 2010, 2011 and 2013, Muhammad became Indian champion in the 400-meter run and in 2012 with the 4-by-400-meter relay.
