The 4th IAAF World Relays , unofficially also known as the 4th World Relay Championships , took place on May 11th and 12th, 2019 at the Yokohama International Stadium . After three events in Nassau (Bahamas) , the competition was awarded to a different location for the first time.
Competitions
The Olympic distances of 4 x 100 meters and 4 x 400 meters as well as relays over 4 x 200 meters remained part of the World Relays . There was also the 4 x 400 meter mixed relay introduced at the previous event in 2017. New to the program was a 2-by-2-by-400-meter relay with one man and one woman per nation, which replaced the 4-by-800-meter relay from previous years. Also for the first time, the also mixed hurdles pendulum relay (English. Shuttle Hurdles Relay ) was held, with which the winners were now determined in three men, women and mixed competitions. In the 2-by-2-by-400-meter relay, just like in the 4-by-400-meter mixed relay, it was up to the nations to decide in which order the two genders started.
The top 10 in the final ranking over 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meters qualified directly for the 2019 World Championships in Doha , over 4 x 400 meters the ranks were run out in a B final. To qualify for the mixed relay over 4 x 400 meters, which was held for the first time at the World Championships, a place in the top 12 was sufficient.

The Jamaican quartet with the individual Olympic champions Thompson and Fraser-Pryce got bronze after two messed up changes, as the US-Americans, who originally came in third , were disqualified after a handover outside the exchange area ( IWR 170.7).

Final: May 11th
After a false start by the Australian starter (disqualification according to IWR 162.8) only two medals were awarded. The Jamaican season also qualified for the final did not appear after both Andrew Riley and substitute runner Norman Pittersgill were injured.
Points table
Instead of a medal table, a point system was used (8 points for 1st place etc. up to one point for 8th place) to determine the order of the participating nations across disciplines. The winning nation received the Golden Baton .
