Akeem Bloomfield (born October 11, 1997 in Kingston ) is a Jamaican athlete who starts in the sprint.

Athletic career

Akeem Bloomfield first competed in national competitions over the 100 and 200 meter sprint distances in 2014. In March he ran his season best of 10.4 s over 100 meters. From 2015 he then focused mainly on the 400 meters. Over this distance, he competed in April at the U20 Central America and Caribbean Games in Basse-Terre , the capital of the island state of St. Kitts and Nevis . He ran a time of 45.85 s in the final and won the gold medal. A month earlier he ran a time of 44.93 s in Kingston, setting a new national junior record that had previously remained unattainable for 20 years. A year later he entered the same championships, this time in St. George’s on Grenada . He was able to defend his title over 400 meters. He also won the gold medal with the 4 x 400 meter relay.

After attending Kingston College , Bloomfield began studying at Auburn University in the US state of Alabama in 2017 and competed for the university in national competitions as part of the college championships. In May he set a new best time of 44.74 s over the 400 meters and was then in good spirits to qualify for the World Championships in London. However, in the final of the college championships he suffered an injury to his rear thigh and was subsequently unable to reach the qualifying time in the decisive competition, the Jamaican championships, and thus missed the world championships. In 2018 he signed a contract with the sporting goods manufacturer Puma . In March he ran in the hall in Texas College Station for 44.86 s. This time meant a new national indoor record. During this time, as of 2020, it took seventh place on the world's best list in this discipline in the hall. In June it ran for 43.94 seconds outdoors. A month later, he surprisingly won the 200m in 19.81 s at a meeting in London, making him part of the 30 best 200m runners of all time. With his time over 400 meters, he was only a hundredth of a second behind the national record. There it is, as of 2020, 17th on the world's best list.

In May 2019 he took part in the Jamaican 4 x 400 meter relay at the IAAF World Relays in Yokohama. The quartet ran a time of 3: 01.57 minutes in the final and won the silver medal. In the arbor of the year, in contrast to 2017, he qualified for the world championships . There he managed to qualify for the final in Doha, where he finished eighth and last in 45.36 s. Only two days later he also competed with the relay at the World Championships. As at the World Relay Games in May, the quartet also won the silver medal in Qatar.
