Gloria Hooper (born March 3, 1992 in Villafranca di Verona ) is an Italian athlete who specializes in 100 and 200 meter runs .
Athletic career
In 2010, Gloria Hooper appeared for the first time at international championships, the Junior World Championships in Moncton , Canada , and was eliminated there in the first round in the 200-meter run with 24.74 s. The following year she finished seventh at the Junior European Championships in Tallinn in 23.95 s and won the silver medal with the Italian 4 x 100 meter relay with a new U20 record of 44.52 s. In 2012 she qualified for the European Championships in Helsinki , where she was disqualified in the semi-finals due to a false start. In addition, she could not qualify for the final with the season in 43.90 s. Then she started over 200 meters at the Olympic Games in London , where she was eliminated with 23.25 s in the lead . In 2013 she took part in the 60-meter run for the first time at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg , where she was eliminated in the first round with 7.41 seconds. In July she won the bronze medal over 200 meters at the U23 European Championships in Tampere in 23.24 s and also with the relay in 43.86 s. So she qualified for the first time for the World Championships in Moscow , where she was eliminated with 23.10 s in the preliminary round.
At the IAAF World Relays 2015 in the Bahamas , she competed in the 4 x 100 meter relay, but could not finish there. Over 200 meters she was eliminated from the World Championships in Beijing with 22.92 s in the semifinals , while she could not qualify for the final with the relay in 43.22 s. In 2016 she started at the World Indoor Championships in Portland , where she made it over 60 meters to the semifinals, in which she did not start. Then she reached the semifinals at the European Championships in Amsterdam in the 100-meter run and also over 200 meters, in which she was eliminated with 11.48 s and 23.25 s. Furthermore, she finished seventh with the relay in 43.57 s. With her performances she qualified again over 200 meters for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she was eliminated again in the first round with 23.05 s . In 2017 she reached the semifinals of the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade , where she was eliminated in the semifinals with 7.34 seconds. Then she was disqualified at the World Relays with the relay in the run-up and retired at the World Championships in London with 23.51 s in the preliminary round .
In 2018, at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona , she won the silver medal over 200 meters behind Carolle Zahi from France in 23.09 s and also won the bronze medal in 43.63 s behind France and Spain in the relay. Then she reached the semi-finals at the European Championships in Berlin over 200 meters, in which she was eliminated with 23.43 s and finished seventh with the relay in 43.42 s. At the IAAF World Relays 2019 in Yokohama she was fifth in 44.29 s and at the World Championships in Doha she was eliminated over 200 meters with 23.33 s in the lead . With the relay she reached the finals and finished this after 42.98 s, a new national record, in seventh place.
In 2013, 2015 and 2016 Hooper became Italian champion in the 100-meter run and from 2015 to 2017 and 2019 also over 200 meters. In addition, she secured the title in the 4 x 100 meter relay in 2012 and 2013 as well as in 2017 and 2018.
