The 21st Junior European Athletics Championships took place from July 21st to 24th, 2011 at the Kadrioru stadium in the Estonian capital Tallinn .

954 athletes from 47 countries took part, with Germany sending the largest team with 85, followed by France with 65, Great Britain 57, Spain 55, Italy 53 and Russia 50 - the host country was represented by 27 athletes. All teams together had 678 companions.

Medals were awarded in 44 competitions, 22 each for men and women. The disciplines were essentially the same as in the European Athletics Championships in the main class, but there were isolated differences. There was no 10,000-meter run for women, but a 3000-meter run . For both men and women, walking the 10,000-meter track replaced longer street competitions, and there was no marathon . With the exception of the javelin throw , the men used lighter equipment in the throwing disciplines and overcame lower hurdles in the 110-meter hurdles. This also applied to the disciplines within the decathlon .

The services were consistently at a high level. Outstanding were the junior world record of the Russian Elena Laschmanowa in the 10,000 meter track walk and the junior European record of the German 4 x 100 meter relay. There were also eight other championship records and two national records. The most successful athlete was the British sprinter Jodie Williams with two gold medals and one bronze medal. The Serbian middle distance runner Amela Terzić won two gold medals. In the men's category, the French sprinter Jimmy Vicaut and the Spanish long-distance runner Gabriel Navarro scored two victories. Russia led the medal table with 18 medals, including eight gold ones. Germany collected a total of five more medals, but one less gold than Russia. In the ranking table, in which the best eight athletes in each competition are included, Germany was in first place by a clear margin. The only medal for the host country was achieved by Liina Laasma as the winner in the javelin throw.
