Alina Rotaru (born June 5, 1993 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian long jumper.
Athletic career
She started athletics at the age of seven and won the gold medal in the long jump at the 2009 World Youth Championships and also came fourth in the high jump. But later she specialized in the long jump. At the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games she was second, as well as at the 2011 European Junior Championships in Tallinn . She was fifth at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona in 2012 and seventh at the 2014 European Championships in Zurich .
At the European Indoor Championships in 2015 , Alina Rotaru finished fourth with her personal best of 6.74 m. She only just had to admit defeat to her compatriot Florentina Marincu , who set a new European junior record with 6.79 m. At the U23 European Championships in Tallinn, Rotaru won the bronze medal. Then she took part in the 2015 World Championships , but did not make it to the final.
At the 2016 World Indoor Athletics Championships in Portland, Rotaru was tenth. In the same year she made her debut at the German Athletics Championships 2016 in Kassel, where she finished fifth. Also in 2016 she took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , but was eliminated there in the qualification. At the 2017 World Championships in London, Rotaru made it to the final for the first time and finished twelfth. Shortly thereafter, she won the gold medal at the Universiade in Taipei. After the season she was named the best Romanian athlete 2017 by the Romanian Federation, together with her trainer Micky Corucle, who received the award "Trainer of the year 2017 in Romania".
Rotaru finished ninth at the 2018 World Indoor Championships in Birmingham.
In the Romanian title fights, Rotaru has already secured eight long jump titles. Since 2013 she has been unbeaten at the Romanian Open Air Championships. In the hall she was able to secure the title in 2014, 2016 and 2019.
Rotaru achieved her greatest international success to date in the women's class at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha . There she finished sixth with a width of 6.71 m.
