The Clubul Sportiv al Armatei Steaua București (German Army Sports Club Steaua Bucharest ), in German-speaking countries for short CSA Steaua Bucharest or simply Steaua Bucharest , is a sports club from the Romanian capital Bucharest . The association was founded on June 7, 1947 as ASA Bucharest and was renamed CSCA Bucharest in 1948 and CCA Bucharest in 1950 before it was given its current name in 1961.

Departments

The club currently has 29 departments: basketball , boxing , ice hockey , fencing , football , weightlifting , gymnastics , handball (male), judo , canoeing , karate , kempō karate , athletics , modern pentathlon , motorcycle sport , equestrian sport , cycling , wrestling , rowing , Rugby , sambo , shooting , swimming , tennis , table tennis , triathlon , volleyball , water polo and world taekwondo .

ice Hockey

The ice hockey department was founded in 1951 and is the Romanian record champion . The team competes under the marketing name Steaua Rangers .

Soccer

The football department existed since 1947 and subsequently became the Romanian record champions and won the European Cup in 1986 . In 1998 the football department was separated from the army sports club and privatized as a non-profit organization . In 2003, George Becali acquired the shares in the organization that became a public company . In 2017, the joint-stock company lost a legal battle against the Romanian Ministry of Defense. The company had to rename its team to FCSB Bucharest and was no longer allowed to use the logo. The football department of CSA Steaua Bucharest was re-established in the course of the legal dispute in 2014 and has been competing in League IV with the symbols and names won since the 2017/18 season .

Handball

The handball department is the Romanian record champion and has won the European Champion's Cup twice .
