final

August 28, 2015, 7:50 p.m. local time (1:50 p.m. CEST )

The long jump winner of the last two World Championships 2011 / 2013 and Olympic champion in 2012 Brittney Reese of the United States was weak with it for 6.39 m already failed to qualify. The Russian Olympic runner-up Jelena Sokolowa jumped five centimeters further than Reese, but she did not reach the final either. The French double European champion from 2012 and 2014 Éloyse Lesueur did not run. The favorites that remained were the 2013 World Cup third and 2014 European Vice Champion Ivana Španović from Serbia, the US Olympic third Janay DeLoach and her compatriot Tianna Bartoletta and the British 2013 World Cup fifth Shara Proctor. The Belarusian fourth in the last World Championships also failed to qualify with 6.39 m.

In the first round, Španović managed to jump over the 7-meter mark with 7.01 m, with which she took the lead. At the same time she had set a new Serbian national record. Behind her was the Canadian Christabel Nettey with a good 6.95 m. This order did not change in lap two, but after an invalid first jump, Bartoletta was now level with Nettey's width and Proctor was fourth with 6.87 m. Proctor's compatriot Lorraine Ugen was now only two centimeters behind. In her third attempt, Proctor set a new British national record with 7.07 m, displacing Španović from the top. Before the three finals with the best eight athletes, Proctor was leading. Španović was second ahead of Bartoletta, Nettey and Ugen. The German Malaika Mihambo was in sixth place with 6.79 m from round two.

In rounds four and five nothing changed in this order. Proctor surpassed the 7-meter mark again with 7.01 m, but that was no improvement for her. In the final round there were two more 7-meter jumps. Initially, Bartoletta scored 7.14 m and took the lead. This also meant a new world record for the year. Then Španović reached 7.01 m, which they equaled their distance from the first round. With that the decision was made. Tianna Bartoletta was the new world champion, Shara Proctor had won silver, Ivana Španović bronze. Christabel Nettey came fourth ahead of Lorraine Ugen and Malaika Mihambo.
