final

August 25, 2015, 8:35 p.m. local time (2:35 p.m. CEST )

Among the favorites were the reigning world champion , vice European champion and Olympic bronze medalist in 2012 Abeba Aregawi, the Dutch European champion Sifan Hassan and the Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba who was convincing this season - fifth at the last world championships. She had set a new world record in July . In the semifinals, the Kenyan Faith Kipyegon also presented herself well. Vice World Champion Jennifer Simpson from the USA, however, no longer had the level of performance of the 2013 World Cup .

In the initial phase, the two Americans Simpson and Shannon Rowbury took the lead. The pace was not high - first lap: 1: 17.05 min / second lap: 1: 12.60 min. So the field stayed completely together in two or sometimes three rows. After seven hundred meters, Dibaba took the leading position and the race was now significantly faster. First Aregawi moved into second place, then Kipyegon followed the front runner. The field was now tearing apart. At the beginning of the last four hundred meters, Aregawi could no longer follow the pace. The third lap was run in 57.27 s.

Behind the ever more accelerating world record holder lay Kipyegon, the Ethiopian Dawit Seyaum and Hassan. These four runners set themselves apart from the rest of the field. In the target corner, Kipyegon lost contact with Dibaba. Hassan pulled past the Kenyan while Seyaum had to be demolished. On the home straight Genzebe Dibaba ran confidently to the world championship and gave her opponents no chance. Faith Kipyegon regained her second place, she was runner-up in front of Sifan Hassan and Dawit Seyaum. British Laura Muir finished fifth, ahead of Abeba Aregawi and Shannon Rowbury. The eighth place went to Angelika Cichocka from Poland.
