Malika Akkaoui ( Arabic مليكة العقاوي, DMG Malīka al-ʿAqqāwī ; * December 25, 1987 in Zaida ) is a Moroccan athlete who competes in the middle distance run .

Athletic career

Malika Akkaoui gained her first international experience at the 2004 Arab Youth Championships in Rabat , where she won the silver medal in the 800-meter run in 2: 10.31 minutes . Two years later she took part in the Junior World Championships in Beijing and was eliminated there with 2: 10.20 minutes in the first round. In 2010 she won the bronze medal at the African Championships in Nairobi in 2: 01.01 minutes behind the Algerian Zahra Bouras and Janeth Jepkosgei Busienei from Kenya. The following year she took part in the World Championships in Daegu for the first time, but was eliminated there with 4: 14.79 min in the 1,500 meter run in the preliminary round. In autumn she won the Arab Championships in al-Ain in 3: 40.58 min with the Moroccan 4 x 400 meter relay and won the silver medal over 800 meters behind the Bahraini Genzeb Shumi in 2: 05.15 min . Then she won in 53.94 s in the 400-meter run and in 2: 02.42 min and with the relay at the Pan-Arab Games in Doha . The following year she was eliminated at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul with 2: 04.20 minutes in the first round and again won the bronze medal at the African Championships in Porto-Novo in 1: 59.90 minutes behind Francine Niyonsaba and Eunice Jepkoech Sum from Burundi from Kenya. So she qualified for the Olympic Games in London , where she was eliminated with 2: 00.32 minutes in the semifinals .

The following year she won the Mediterranean Games in Mersin in 2: 00.72 min and was disqualified from the relay. Over 800 meters, she also qualified for the World Championships in Moscow , where she was eliminated in the semifinals with 2: 02.29 minutes. She then won the silver medal at the Francophonie Games in Nice in 2: 02.61 minutes and was fourth in the relay in 3: 37.48 minutes. Then she won the Islamic Solidarity Games in Palembang in 53.19 s over 400 meters as well as over 800 meters and with the relay. In 2014 she was eliminated from the World Indoor Championships in Sopot with 2: 06.04 minutes in advance and was sixth in the African Championships in Marrakech in 2: 02.63 minutes. In 2015 she won the Arab Championships in Madinat Isa in 2: 05.77 minutes. At the World Championships in Beijing , she was eliminated in the 800-meter run with 1: 59.03 min in the semifinals , while over 1500 meters with 4: 16.98 min in the final, she finished twelfth.

In 2016 she was eliminated at the World Indoor Championships in Portland with 2: 04.00 min in the first round over 800 meters and then won the silver medal behind the South African Caster Semenya at the African Championships in Durban in 2: 00.24 min . At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro she was eliminated over 800 meters with 2: 00.52 minutes in the lead , while she reached the semifinals over 1500 meters , in which she was eliminated with 4: 08.55 minutes. In 2017 she won the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku in 2: 01.04 min and was disqualified there with the 4 x 100 meter relay. Then she also won the Francophonie Games in Abidjan in 2: 00.71 minutes and won the silver medal over 1500 meters in 4: 17.36 minutes. At the World Championships in London she reached the final in the 1500 meter run , in which she reached tenth place with 4: 05.87 minutes. In 2018 she was eliminated from the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham with 4: 15.09 min in the first round. Then she won the silver medal in 2: 01.50 min and 4: 13.31 min over 800 and 1500 meters at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona . In addition, she took fourth place with the Moroccan relay in 3: 33.91 minutes. At the African Championships in Asaba she won the bronze medal over 1500 meters in 4: 14.17 minutes behind the Kenyan Winny Chebet and her compatriot Rababe Arafi .

In 2019 she won the Arabian Championships in Cairo in 4: 29.10 min over 1500 meters and won the silver medal behind the team from Bahrain in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 49.85 min. At the end of August she finished fourth at the Africa Games in Rabat in 2: 03.78 minutes over 800 meters, as well as over 1500 meters in 4: 20.64 minutes. At the World Championships in Doha , she retired over 800 meters with 2: 03.40 minutes in the first round .

In 2007 Akkaoui became the Moroccan champion in the 800-meter run, in 2014 over 400 meters and in 2018 in the 1500-meter run.
