final

August 29, 2015, 9:10 p.m. (3:10 p.m. CEST )

The following line-up changes were made in the final:

  • Jamaica - Usain Bolt ran in place of Rasheed Dwyer.
  • United Kingdom - Chijindu Ujah replaced Harry Aikines-Aryeetey.

Once again a duel between Jamaica and the United States was expected. At the international championships of recent years, the Americans were not exactly lucky. There had been losses of staff and also once doping-related disqualifications. Jamaica, on the other hand, had won all world titles since 2007 and was also successful at the 2012 Olympics .

The first two US runners Trayvon Bromell and Justin Gatlin brought their team significantly forward. Tyson Gay also retained a slight lead over Jamaica. But US final runner Mike Rodgers started a little too early and then had to brake in order not to exceed the change mark. But it was too late, Gay couldn't pass the baton to Rodgers in time. The US team was disqualified and went away empty-handed again, while Usain Bolt now completed his final straight in a superior manner and Jamaica secured the renewed world title.

The British had also done well in the race until their third runner. But then the last change from James Ellington to Chijindu Ujah lost the baton and the team was eliminated. Quite surprisingly, after this process, the domestic relay from China was able to secure the silver medal with great acclaim. Bronze went to Canada. In fourth place, the German team missed the medal ranks by just two hundredths of a second. France came in fifth, Antigua and Barbuda in sixth place.
