Trayvon Bromell (born July 10, 1995 in Saint Petersburg , Florida ) is an American sprinter .
Career
On March 29, 2014, he set the junior world record over 100 meters in Austin with 10.01 seconds . Starting for Baylor University , he won the same distance at the NCAA championships in June and was the first junior to stay below the 10-second mark with 9.97 seconds. In July, he won silver over 100 meters and gold in the 4-by-100-meter relay at the Junior World Championships in Eugene .
In 2015 he was NCAA indoor champion over 200 meters . In the summer he improved in the NCAA championships in the run over 100 meters to 9.90 s; in the final he only had to admit defeat to Andre De Grasse . At the US championships he qualified over 100 meters in second behind Tyson Gay for the world championships in Beijing ; in the run-up he managed another leap in performance to 9.84 s.
In the 100 meter competition of the World Championships , he qualified with 9.91 s in the run-up and 9.99 s in the semifinals for the last round, in which he was behind Usain Bolt (9.79 s) and Justin Gatlin (9.80 s ) together with Andre De Grasse took bronze in 9.92 s. In the 4 x 100 meter relay competition of the World Championships , he was disqualified in the final with the US quartet.
At the 2016 World Indoor Championships in Portland , Bromell won the 60-meter run with a personal best of 6.47 s ahead of the favorite Jamaican Asafa Powell . In July he was able to qualify as second behind Justin Gatlin in the Olympic Trials for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro ; In all three laps he ran under 10 seconds, in the final he even ran the second fastest time of the year with 9.86 seconds. At the Olympics he reached the final, where he did not get past eighth place with 10.06 s. The US 4-by-100-meter relay was disqualified because the starting runner Mike Rodgers had passed the baton to Gatlin before the start of the transition area.
