final
August 23, 2015, 9:15 p.m. local time (3:15 p.m. CEST )
The duel between Usain Bolt and the American sprinters, who finally wanted to beat the Jamaican once again, was at these world championships. With Justin Gatlin, Tyson Gay, Trayvon Bromell and Mike Rodgers, all four US runners had reached the final. Bolt's compatriot Asafa Powell, one of the strongest sprinters in recent years, was also there again, who, like the Canadian Andre De Grasse, was hoping for a medal. Frenchman Jimmy Vicaut was the only European to qualify for the 100 meter final. The Chinese Su Bingtian completed the field as ninth participant.
As almost always in previous years, Usain Bolt was the first to cross the finish line in 9.79 s. It was very tight, however. Justin Gatlin finished second by just one hundredth of a second. Twelve more hundredths of a second after him, Trayvon Bromell and Andre De Grasse came third together. So there were two bronze medals. Mike Rodgers also stayed under ten seconds in fifth with 9.94 seconds.
It was Usain Bolt's third and last world championship title in the 100 meters after 2009 and 2013 . At the 2011 World Championships , Bolt had to give way to compatriot Yohan Blake after a disqualification due to false starts . At his last World Cup appearance in 2017 , he should have to let Justin Gatlin go first. Then Usain Bolt ended his sports career.
