Reza Ghasemi ( Persian رضا قاسمی; born July 24, 1987 in Isfahan ) is an Iranian sprinter .

Athletic career

Reza Ghasemi gained his first experience in international championships at the Asian Indoor Championships 2010 in Tehran , where he won the silver medal over 60 meters. He then took part in the World Indoor Championships in Doha and reached the semi-finals there. In 2011 he took part in the Asian Championships in Kobe for the first time and was eliminated there over 100 meters in the semifinals and was seventh over 200 meters. In the summer he took part in the Student World Games in Shenzhen , where he reached sixth place over 200 meters and was eliminated in the semi-finals over 100 meters. In 2012 he won the gold medal in the 60-meter run at the Asian Indoor Championships in Hangzhou and again reached the semi-finals at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul . He also managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in London , where he was eliminated over 100 meters with 10.31 s in the first round .

At the Asian Championships in Pune in 2013 , he reached fourth place over 100 and 200 meters. He also qualified for the World Championships in Moscow , from which he was eliminated in the first round . He then won the gold medal in the 100-meter run and bronze over 200 meters at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Palembang . In 2014 Ghasemi won the bronze medal over 60 meters at the Asian Indoor Championships in Hangzhou and finished fourth in the Iranian 4 x 400 meter relay. He then reached the semi-finals over 60 meters for the third time at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot . At the Asian Games in Incheon he finished fifth over 100 meters and won the silver medal over 60 meters at the Beach Games in Phuket . In 2015 he won the bronze medal over 100 meters at the Asian Championships in Wuhan and finished sixth in the 200-meter run. He qualified again for the World Championships in Beijing , where he was eliminated again in the first round over 100 meters. In October he won the silver medal over 100 meters at the Military World Games in Mungyeong, South Korea, and reached the semi-finals over 200 meters. In addition, he was disqualified with the relay in the run-up.

In 2016, at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha , he won the silver medal over 60 meters behind his compatriot Hassan Taftian as well as silver in the 4 x 400 meter relay. He qualified again in the outdoor season for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated again in the prelim over 100 meters . He then won the silver medal in the 60-meter run again at the Beach Games in Da Nang . In 2017 he won the bronze medal over 60 meters at the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat . In 2018 he took part in the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran , where he finished fourth over 60 meters with 6.71 seconds.

In 2012 he became Iranian champion over 100 and 200 meters.
