Hassan Taftian ( Persian حسن تفتیان; * May 4, 1993 in Torbat-e Heidarije ) is an Iranian sprinter .

Athletic career

Hassan Taftian gained his first experience in international championships at the Youth Asian Games in Singapore in 2009 , where he finished sixth over 100 meters. In 2010 he won the silver medal behind the Chinese Zheng Dongsheng at the Junior Asian Championships in Hanoi and reached the semi-finals over 100 meters at the Junior World Championships in Moncton, Canada . Two years later he won the gold medal over 100 meters and bronze over 200 meters at the Junior Asian Championships in Colombo and reached the semi-finals again at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona . In 2013 he took part in the Asian Championships in Pune , where he finished eighth over 100 meters. He also qualified for the World Championships in Moscow , from which he was eliminated in the first round . In 2014 Taftian reached the semi-finals over 60 meters at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot , as well as at the Asian Games in Incheon over 100 meters. Over 200 meters he finished eighth in the final. In 2015 he qualified again for the World Championships in Beijing , where he reached the semi-finals over 100 meters this time .

In 2016 he won the gold medal over 60 meters at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha . He also qualified for the first time for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he reached the semi-finals over 100 meters . In 2017 he finished eighth over 100 meters at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku and won the gold medal at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar . At the World Championships in London, however, he was eliminated in the first round over 100 meters . At the beginning of September he won the gold medal over 60 meters at the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat . In 2018 he took part in the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran , where he again won the gold medal over 60 meters in 6.51 seconds. He qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , where he finished fifth with 6.53 s. At the end of August he again took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta and was there in 10.19 s sixth over 100 meters and was eliminated in the 200-meter run in the semifinals.

At the 2019 Asian Championships in Doha, he made it over 100 meters to the finals, in which he could no longer compete. End of September, he took one more time at the World Championships the same place part and retired there with 10.24 s in advance of. He then won the Military World Games in Wuhan in 10.24 s and could not finish the heat with the 4 x 100 meter relay.

Taftian graduated from the University of Tehran with a degree in sports management .
