The University of Tehran ( Persian دانشگاه تهران) is the oldest and most respected university in Tehran . With over 50,000 students and 2,150 academic employees, it is also the largest university in all of Iran .

The University of Tehran was founded in 1934 by order of Reza Shah by merging existing educational institutions as the first university in Iran. The well-known medical faculty goes back to Dar-ol Fonun , which was founded in 1851 . The Faculties of Fine Arts & Architecture , Agricultural Sciences and Law consist of various universities founded by European scientists between 1899 and 1918. The university was continuously expanded in the following years through the establishment of further faculties. 2004, the first master's degree program for entrepreneurs (was here Entrepreneurship ) established in Iran.

Female students were also admitted from the start.
