One of the founders is Albrecht Thaer . In addition to the inclusion of many sub-areas from other scientific areas, there are independent subject areas of agricultural sciences. A common basic division divides them into crop science , animal science and agricultural economics .

Fields of activity
The agricultural degree is an interdisciplinary, broad degree. There are therefore many possible uses afterwards; so z. B. in research , breeding , technical advice , as well as in journalism . Agricultural engineers are also employed outside of their own field; z. B. at banks , insurance companies or in the administration of the public service .
Branches and disciplines
- Plant science : a more modern collective term for sub-areas such as plant cultivation science , bioinformatics , plant nutrition , plant breeding , phytopathology , herbology and entomology . Even the horticulture heard this.
- Animal sciences : include sub-areas such as animal nutrition , animal husbandry , animal breeding , veterinary medicine and physiology .
- the agricultural economics and social sciences include disciplines such as
- the agricultural natural and engineering sciences
Academic degrees
In the past, the academic degree of agricultural engineer or agricultural engineer (Dipl.-Ing. Agr.) Was awarded in diploma courses in Germany . Qualifications from universities of applied sciences can usually be recognized by the addition (FH). In the course of the Bologna Process , most universities in Germany now offer the tiered study system with the degrees Bachelor and Master . Some universities also offer international double degrees, such as the Master’s course “Organic Agriculture and Food Systems (EUR-Organic)” at the University of Hohenheim.
