Agricultural meteorology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Agricultural Meteorology is a branch of meteorology . She is primarily concerned with the influence of weather and climate on agriculture .

In order to achieve optimal yields in agriculture, knowledge of the upcoming weather or the weather conditions (climate) that can be expected on a regular basis is of decisive importance. On the basis of these predictions, for example, irrigation measures , dates for sowing and harvesting and plant protection measures can be planned sensibly. Likewise, protective measures must be taken in good time if, for example, severe night frost or severe hail or storm damage is to be expected.

In addition, there are agro-meteorological measuring stations for researching the influence of the earth's atmosphere on the growth of plants or the behavior of animals, for example pests.
