Ezatollah Sahabi
Ezatollah Sahabi ( Persian عزتالله سحابی, DMG ʿIzzatu-llāh Saḥābī ; * May 5, 1930 in Tehran ; † May 31, 2011 ibid) was an Iranian member of parliament , publisher and critic of the regime .
Life
Sahabi studied electrical engineering at the University of Tehran , joined the national resistance movement ( National Front ) after the overthrow of Mohammad Mossadegh , and later the freedom movement of Mehdi Bāzargān . The Shah critic was imprisoned from 1972 to 1979.
Sahabi was appointed to the Revolutionary Council by Ruhollah Khomeini as one of the few non-clerics , and he was later elected to the Assembly of Experts and the Iranian Parliament. At the end of 1979, Sahabi was appointed head of the planned economy office, but after a statement critical of the regime, he was released from this office in 1981.
As editor of the magazine Iran-e Farda , especially after the Iranian spring 1997 through the election of Mohammed Chatami , he came out with articles critical of the regime. As a participant in the Berlin Iran Conference in March 2000, on his return he was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for endangering national security and for propaganda against the Islamic system .
At the funeral of Sahabi on June 1, 2011, there was a scuffle between the police and opposition members, in the course of which Haleh Sahabi , the daughter of the deceased, was killed. According to the Iranian refugee aid association , security forces tried to snatch a photo of her father from the critic of the regime and religious scholar. Haleh Sahabi suffered a heart attack and later died in Lavasan Hospital in Tehran.
