Femi Seun Ogunode (born May 15, 1991 in Ondo ) is a Qatari sprinter of Nigerian origin who has been eligible to compete in Qatar since 2010. He is the current holder of the Asian records over 100 and 200 meters. His brother Tosin Ogunode is also active as a sprinter for Qatar.

Athletic career

Femi Ogunode gained his first international experience at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou , where he celebrated a double victory over 200 and 400 meters in 20.43 s and 45.12 s. The following year he won with a new championship record of 20.41 s at the Asian Championships in Kobe in the 200-meter run . He then won the World Military Games in Rio de Janeiro over 100 and 200 meters and set new records there in both competitions. At the World Championships in Daegu , he reached the final in the 400-meter run and finished eighth there in 45.55 s. Over 200 meters he reached the semi-finals, in which he was eliminated with 20.58 s. This was followed by winning two bronze medals and winning over 200 meters at the Arab Championships in al-Ain and the gold medal over 100 meters and silver over 200 meters at the Pan-Arab Games in Doha . He was then tested positive for Clenbuterol and banned for two years for this violation of the doping rules.

After his suspension he won the silver medal behind his compatriot Samuel Francis in the 60-meter run at the Asian Indoor Championships in Hangzhou in 6.62 s . He then took part for the first time in the World Indoor Championships in Sopot , Poland , where he won the bronze medal in 6.52 seconds behind the British Richard Kilty and Marvin Bracy from the United States. At the Athletics Continental Cup in Marrakech he was third in the 100 m and 200 m, and at the Asian Games in Incheon he defended his title over 200 meters in 20.14 s and won the 100-meter run with a new Asian record of 9 , 93 p. In 2015 he won the Arab Championships in Madinat Isa over 100 and 200 meters and won three gold medals at the Asian Championships in Wuhan . While he already secured his second title over 200 meters in 20.32 s, he improved his own Asian record in the 100-meter run by two hundredths of a second to 9.91 s, setting a new championship record. Even with the Qatari 4 x 400 meter relay, he reached the finish line in 3: 02.50 minutes faster than any other team before. He qualified again for the World Championships in Beijing , where he was eliminated with 10.00 s in the semifinals over 100 meters, while he finished seventh over 200 meters with 20.27 s in the final . Then he won the Memorial Van Damme in 19.97 seconds and was the first Asian runner to stay over 200 meters below the 20-second barrier.

In 2016, Ogunode qualified over 100 and 200 meters for the first time for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he surprisingly retired in 10.28 s over 100 meters and in 20.36 s in the prerun over 200 meters. The following year he was seventh over 100 meters in 11.46 s at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku . He then won the silver medal behind Iranian Hassan Taftian at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar in 10.26 s , while he was beaten over 200 meters in 20.79 s by Yang Chun-han from Taiwan and the South Korean Park Tae-geon . After not contesting a single competition in 2018, he reached the final of the Asian Championships in Doha in 2019 over 200 meters, in which he could not finish his run due to an injury.
