Richard Kilty (born September 2, 1989 in Stockton-on-Tees ) is a British sprinter .

Career

Richard Kilty gained his first international experience at the 2008 Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz , where he reached the semi-finals over 200 meters. In 2009 he finished seventh over 200 meters at the U23 European Championships in Kaunas in 20.93 s. Two years later he won the silver medal behind Italy in the British 4 x 100 meter relay in 39.10 s at the U23 European Championships in Ostrava . At the World Championships in Moscow , he was used in the run-up to the 4 x 100 meter relay . Without him, the British quartet was disqualified in the final.

In 2014 he won the World Indoor Championships in Sopot over 60 meters in 6.49 s. He then won the bronze medal at the World Relays in the Bahamas . At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow he was eliminated over 100 meters in the semi-finals and won silver in the English 4 x 100 meter relay in 38.02 s. This was followed by a victory in the British 4 x 100 meter relay at the European Championships in Zurich .

In 2015 he won the European Indoor Championships in Prague over 60 meters in 6.51 seconds. He then won the B final at the World Relays with the British season . Over 100 meters he qualified for the World Championships in Beijing and was eliminated there with 10.20 seconds in the semifinals . In the final of the 4 x 100 meter relay, he did not finish with the British team. In 2016 he took part in the European Championships in Amsterdam over 100 meters and was disqualified there in the final. With the relay he took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he finished fifth in the final in 37.98 s.

In 2017 he repeated his success at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade and won the gold medal in 6.54 s ahead of the Slovakian Ján Volko . In 2018 he again took part in the Commonwealth Games over 200 meters in the Australian Gold Coast and was eliminated there with 20.67 seconds in the semifinals. In addition, he won the gold medal with the English relay in 38.13 s, ahead of South Africa and Jamaica.
