The 8th European Athletics U23 Championships took place from July 14 to 17, 2011 in the Městský stadium (in German: municipal stadium) in the Vítkovice district in the Czech city ​​of Ostrava . As host of the 2007 World Youth Athletics Championships and the annual Golden Spike athletics meeting , Ostrava was previously known as a host of major international events.

949 athletes from 42 countries started.

Medals were awarded in 44 competitions, 22 each for men and women. The disciplines were the same as in the European Athletics Championships in the main class. However, the marathon run for men and women and the 50 km walk for men were missing .
