Richard Ringer (born February 27, 1989 in Überlingen , Bodenseekreis ) is a German athlete who specializes in long-distance and cross-country running.

career path

Ringer studied business administration at the HTWG Konstanz and graduated in 2013. Ringer has been working part-time as a controller at Rolls-Royce Power Systems since 2013, but plans to reduce the number of international competitions such as the Diamond League from 2018 due to his focus .

Athletic career

Wrestler's first successes come from his youth. So he became German champion in the B and A youth over the 3000 meter distance.

His greatest success was the bronze medal at the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam , when he crossed the finish line at the same time as the first two.

In 2017, Ringer became German indoor champion over 3000 meters in Leipzig . At the PSD Meeting in Düsseldorf on February 1st, he had already qualified for the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade with 7: 53.56 minutes , at which he was able to win a bronze medal again.

At the beginning of January 2018, Ringer and his long-time trainer Eckhardt Sperlich ended their collaboration by mutual agreement. The conceptual planning for the 2018 season preparation was still developed by Sperlich, from now on Ringer will take over the design of the training himself, as he would like to increasingly participate in international competitions such as the Diamond League with the help of his management (bizz-sports) . Ringer would therefore like to train more individually, at Sperlich the focus was and is above all on the group. In February wrestler became German indoor champion over 3000 m.

Later in the year, he became the third German ever to win the 10,000 meter European Cup in London . The victory time of 27: 36.52 minutes meant fourth place in the all-time German best list over this distance. At the Zevenheuvelenloop in Nijmegen , the Netherlands , he ran the unofficial German record in the 15 km road race with 43:39 minutes. No official German records are held over this distance, the GDR record and the previous German best performance were held by Jürgen Haase , who ran 43:45 min in Sachsenhausen in 1976 .

Richard Ringer is in a relationship with the long-distance runner Nada Ina Pauer .

Club affiliations

Ringer starts in 2019 for at least two years for the LC Rehlingen . He had previously been with VfB LC Friedrichshafen since 2005 .
