The Konstanz University of Applied Sciences for Technology, Business and Design ( HTWG Konstanz for short ) is a university of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg in Konstanz . Its international name is Konstanz University of Applied Sciences .
history
The university has its predecessor in the "Technikum Konstanz" founded in 1906. This private technical college, founded by the engineer Alfred Wachtel , initially had 28 students and four lecturers and was founded with three departments: engineering school, technical school and school for foremen. It started operations at Hussenstrasse 17 in the old town of Konstanz with a range of courses in electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, which was expanded to include civil engineering shortly afterwards.
The move to the engineering school on the banks of the Rhine in 1911 (with a one year delay due to flood damage) can be traced back to 184 due to the increasing number of students. In 1934 it was recognized as a state technical center. In 1938 the technical center was nationalized as the State Engineering School in Konstanz . After the end of the war, the engineering school was closed by the French military administration. In 1946, teaching was resumed in the new Konstanz State Technical Center . The Konstanz University of Applied Sciences was finally established in 1971 through the state-owned sponsorship of the Konstanz State Engineering School . The first rector of the reorganized Konstanz University of Applied Sciences was Georg Schug .
Konstanz University of Applied Sciences
The university was gradually expanded to include the departments of architecture, civil engineering, industrial and production engineering, construction and process engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, power engineering, communications engineering, computer science, basic natural sciences and social sciences. The number of students rose from 1,012 in 1971 to around 4,500 in 2013.
The nationally recognized Bodensee-Kunstschule Konstanz (BKK) was incorporated in 1985 as an institute for communication design at the Konstanz University of Applied Sciences . In 1995 it was integrated into the architecture and design department as a communication design course. In 1986 the Research and Transfer Institute Institute for Innovation and Transfer (IIT) and the Technical Academy Konstanz eV were founded. In 1992 the Langenrain Castle Study Center (today: Villa Rheinburg Study Center) and the Central Office for Research, Further Education and Public Relations (currently: Central Office for Further Education, Public Relations, Teaching and Research - ZWÖLF) were founded.
In the years 1995 to 2000, the university experienced a strategic boost with numerous restructurings and structural extensions. In 2000, as a result of legal provisions, the university council was designated as the highest body of the university. Bachelor and Master degrees were introduced across the board. In 2004 the university was recognized as the best German university in terms of continuing education by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft . In 2005 it was awarded the Baden-Württemberg State Research Prize - as the very first state university of applied sciences. In 2004 the Association of Friends, Supporters and Graduates celebrated its 50th anniversary. At the end of 2006, the association changed its name to the Promotion Agency of the University of Konstanz .
The University of Konstanz has partnerships with numerous colleges and universities around the world. It belongs to the Association of International Lake Constance University .
The preparatory college at the University of Konstanz is the central office responsible for the recognition of certificates for all foreign applicants at universities in Baden-Württemberg. The preparatory college also offers preparatory courses for the assessment test required for admission to study.
