The Biberach University of Applied Sciences (HBC, until 2005: Biberach University of Applied Sciences ) is a state university for applied sciences in Biberach an der Riss in Baden-Württemberg . Her main focus in teaching and research is in the fields of construction , energy, business administration and biotechnology .

history

The university was founded in 1964 as a state engineering school for civil engineering and in 1971 elevated to a technical college . It initially offered the courses in architecture and civil engineering , followed in 1978 by the course in business administration with a focus on construction and real estate, which was first offered in this form in Germany. In 1991 the civil engineering / project management course was introduced, followed by the " building technology / building climate" course in 1998 (since 2014/15: energy engineering ).

In the 2006/2007 winter semester, a new specialist focus was established with the bachelor's degree in “ Pharmaceutical Biotechnology ”. It now includes other courses ( industrial biotechnology , biopharmaceutical and medical technology sciences) as well as a doctoral college in cooperation with Ulm University .

In 2015 the building complex of the former Dollinger Realschule was inaugurated as a new central university campus after a year of renovation. The university was previously spread across several locations in the city.

Together with the University of Ulm and the universities of Ulm and Neu-Ulm is the Biberach University since 2017 the university association "InnoSÜD". The network is funded by the federal and state governments as part of the “Innovative University” program until 2022 with a total of 15 million euros.

Faculties and institutions

The university is divided into four faculties (architecture and energy engineering, civil engineering and project management, business administration, biotechnology), which are spread over two locations. Most of the facilities have been located on the central campus in downtown Biberach since 2015, while the Biotechnology Faculty is located on the Aspach campus on the northern outskirts.

HBC's research activities are currently bundled in seven specialist institutes. To strengthen the technology transfer , a regional innovation and technology transfer center ITZ Plus is currently being built , in which research opportunities for start-up companies and interested citizens are provided. The ITZ is sponsored by the city of Biberach in cooperation with the university, the district of Biberach and the Ulm Chamber of Commerce and Industry ; It is funded by the EU funding program "RegioWin".

The Academy of Biberach University of Applied Sciences has existed since 1983 (until 2011: Bauakademie Biberach ) as a non-profit foundation and further education institution. In addition to advanced training and seminars for working people (approx. 1500 participants per year), the academy offers several extra-occupational and fee-based postgraduate courses.

The Center for Scientific Further Education , which was founded in 2015 and is funded by the federal-state program “Open University”, is also developing part-time courses .
