Reutlingen State University (English Reutlingen University ; formerly Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences ) is a technical and business-oriented campus - university of applied sciences in Reutlingen, Baden-Württemberg . history
Foundation in the Kingdom of Württemberg
On the initiative of industry, the city of Reutlingen and the Kingdom of Württemberg under Wilhelm I , a weaving school was founded in 1855, from which a technical school for spinning , weaving and warp knitting , the "Royal Württemberg Technical Center for Textile Industry ", emerged in 1891 . After the end of the monarchy in 1918, the institution was renamed "Staatliches Technikum". From 1858 to 1891, the Reutlingen Spendhaus served as a school location before the institution moved to Kaiserstraße 99. A building with extensive factory halls was built there at the turn of the 20th century. The building is now a listed building and currently houses the Reutlingen Police Department.
Expansion of the departments after the Second World War
In 1938 the technical college became the state engineering school . In 1967 the mechanical engineering department was added to this. In 1971 the Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences was created in its current legal form . In the same year, the areas of textile engineering and mechanical engineering were supplemented by the business administration department , which in 1975 was divided into the areas of foreign trade and manufacturing . In 1977, the university moved to the then newly founded campus at Hohbuch.
International profiling
In 1979, in cooperation with the NEOMA Business School in Reims and the University of Middlesex in London, Germany's first fully integrated study program with foreign partner universities with a double degree entitled "European Study Program for Business Administration" (ESB) was created. This study program was combined with the faculties of foreign trade and manufacturing as the "ESB Business School", which today represents the Faculty of Economics at Reutlingen University. In addition to the ESB Business School, the university now includes faculties for applied chemistry, computer science , technology and textiles & design . Today the university cooperates with over 200 foreign partner universities. The proportion of foreign students is around 20 percent. Since 2012, the university has been certified with the HRK "Internationalization of Universities" certificate.
Presidium and organization
Hendrik Brumme has headed the university since 2012. His predecessors were Peter Nieß and Wolfgang Hiller. Alexander Leisner, who took over the office from Jens Schröder, has been Chancellor and Head of Administration since 2019. Reutlingen University has had an external university council since 2000 . The chairman is Christoph Kübel, Managing Director and Labor Director of Robert Bosch GmbH . The faculties are organized on a decentralized basis and are managed by dean's offices under the influence of faculty councils. Student participation takes place through student mandates in the Senate, in the faculty councils of the individual faculties and in study commissions. Furthermore, the AStA and the student parliament work under the STUPA brand to improve study conditions and support various student projects.
