The Catholic University for Church Music Rottenburg (officially: University for Church Music of the Diocese Rottenburg-Stuttgart) is a church art college in Rottenburg am Neckar with the name "Institutum Superius Musicae Sacrae" . The university is run by the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese .
history
The College of Church Music was founded on November 11, 1997. The then Bishop Walter Kasper elevated the Rottenburg Church Music School, founded in 1972, to a university (predecessor: 1928 St. Meinradheim, 1949 Episcopal Music School). On November 22, 1997, the foundation was confirmed by the President of the Pontifical Congregation for Education, Pio Cardinal Laghi . Since then, the university has been known as the “Institutum Superius Musicae Sacrae” .
courses
The university offers master’s courses in Catholic church music (general profile (A), with a focus on organ literature playing, organ improvisation, choral conducting and Gregorian / German liturgy singing), master’s courses in organ literature playing, organ improvisation and Gregorian / German liturgical singing, as well as the bachelor’s degree in Catholic music for part-time church musicians . The master’s courses last 4 semesters. The bachelor's degree (B), which qualifies for a profession, lasts 8 semesters and is equivalent to studying at state universities of music or other universities for church music.
With the C training, part - time church musicians are trained on behalf of the Office for Church Music of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart .
organization
The university's grand chancellor is the bishop of the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese. Currently this is Gebhard Fürst . The first director of the university was Rector Bernhard Schmid and Vice-Rector Cathedral Organist Wolfram Rehfeldt. Since October 2016, Stefan Palm has held the office of Rector and Cathedral Organist Ruben J. Sturm has held the office of Vice-Rector.

The university cooperates with the Evangelical University for Church Music in Tübingen , the musicological institute of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and the Valparaiso University in the US state of Indiana .
