The international strand provides for a compulsory semester abroad and other modules.

history

The IHL was founded in 2011, institutionally accredited by the Science Council of the Federal Republic of Germany and officially recognized by the state of Baden-Württemberg. The reaccreditation took place in 2015. The IHL emerged from the "Theological Seminary of the Liebenzeller Mission" (ThSLM), which was the theological training center of one of the major mission societies in Europe.

The China Inland Mission , now the Liebenzeller Mission , started in 1899 as the German branch of Hudson Taylor's mission , was founded in Hamburg and moved to the northern Black Forest in 1902. In 1900 the training of "missionary pupils" began. Since 1921, graduates of the Theological Seminary of the Liebenzeller Mission (ThSLM) have not only been deployed abroad, but also in Germany. In addition to missionaries and missionary sisters , preachers were now also trained for the groups of friends who supported the LM in their homeland. These were later organized and consolidated into the neo-Pietist South German Community Association , the Liebenzeller Community Association and the Evangelical Community Association Rhine-Main, as well as the Southwest German EC Association (SWD-EC) , which belong to the Evangelical Gnadau Community Association .

In order to meet the growing demands in world missions and in the emerging communities , reforms of the training courses were carried out several times: in 1925 the duration of study was increased from two to four years. In 1949 the teaching of Bible Greek was introduced. At the same time, the course was extended by an annual internship between the third and fourth year of study. In 1980 the ThSLM joined the European Evangelical Accrediting Association (EEAA), which led to a reduction in the number of teaching hours and an increase in the proportion of self-study. From 1995 the ThSLM, together with the two other large theological training centers in the area of the Evangelical Gnadau Community Association, followed the path of a training cooperation known as the CTL (Chrischona-Tabor-Liebenzell).

In the more than 110-year history of the ThSLM, more than 1,640 students have completed the training. Her tasks include founding, building and supporting Christian congregations, developing holistic curricula, building educational institutions and training local church workers, social and diaconal work with street children or addicts, setting up clinic projects in rural areas, leading and supervising Bible translation projects into various languages and primary school education, as well as the development and support of regional youth work.

Standardized scientific reforms in Europe such as the Bologna Process and the increasing professionalization of community and missionary work led to the establishment of the Liebenzell International University, where the main focus is on intercultural studies in Bachelor courses and semesters abroad and internship semesters abroad, both ideally and financially be promoted.

The IHL is supported by the Liebenzeller Mission . The IHL is a member of the Conference of Biblical Training Centers and an extraordinary member of the Association of Private Universities. V.
