Heinzpeter Hempelmann (born May 7, 1954 in Bonn ) is a German Protestant theologian and philosopher . He became known u. a. through his lively lecturing activities and through a large number of publications on basic topics of the understanding of faith and the Bible , Christian ethics and apologetics as well as the relationship between Christian theology and postmodern philosophy . He has a particular research interest in the socio-scientific exploration of lifeworldsor milieus .

Live and act

From 1972 to 1983 Hempelmann studied theology and philosophy in Bonn and Tübingen . In 1979 he completed his master's degree (MA) in philosophy. From 1983 to 1988 he was theological advisor to the Parish Prayer Society. Between 1989 and 1992 he completed a vicariate of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg . In 1992 he received his doctorate from the University of Mainz Dr. theol. From 1992 to 1995 he was a consultant for fundamental theological issues in the Office for Missionary Services of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg. In 1995 he became the director of studies at the theological seminar of the Liebenzeller Mission , and in 1996 director of the seminar. From 2007 onwards, for family reasons, he only worked as a lecturer. From 1997 to 2020 he was editor of the Theological Papers . In February 2015 he was appointed honorary professor for systematic theology and cultural hermeneutics at the Liebenzell International University . In 2007 he became a guest lecturer at the Evangelical University of Tabor in Marburg and a research assistant for questions of the sociology of religion and life-world research in the Evangelical Higher Church Council in Stuttgart (Evangelical Church of Württemberg). Since the 2008/09 winter semester he has held regular teaching positions in practical theology at the University of Greifswald . Since 2010 he has been teaching religious philosophy as a professor at the Evangelical University of Tabor in Marburg , where he has been the scientific director of the TANGENS Institute for Cultural Hermeneutics and Lifeworld Research since 2013 . He is also a lecturer at the Institute for Community Building and World Mission (IGW).

Hempelmann is married to his wife Renate. The couple has two children and lives in Schömberg near Neuenbürg.
