Studies

IGW carries out a modularized study of theology , which is supplemented by seminars at various locations in Switzerland and Germany . Corresponding academic degrees are also awarded in cooperation with the University of South Africa . Since IGW is one of the larger theological training centers in German-speaking Europe, various Bible schools work together with IGW.

In both countries, there is the possibility of face-to-face studies in the study centers; distance learning is also possible.

  • Bachelor's degree (BA) - 4 years of face-to-face study (2 years of basic studies, 2 years of postgraduate studies), accompanying the community. • The bachelor's degree course BTh and the master's degree course MTh are only possible in Switzerland in face-to-face studies (3 years BTh, 2 years MTh), parallel to the community. The course is offered in the study centers in Switzerland ( Burgdorf and Zurich) and is geared towards people who want to prepare for full-time service.
  • Master's program (MA) - around 3 years part-time; Programs for pastoral postgraduate studies or additional training for leading personalities in churches, works or missions who already have a higher education, a university or a technical college degree.
  • The IGW also offers various types of distance learning programs. From a one-year starter course to a master's in distance learning.

IGW Germany

IGW Germany e. V., based in Essen, is the German branch of IGW International. Their training courses are not recognized by the member churches of the EKD .

history

IGW was founded in 1991 by Heinz Strupler, founder and pastor of the Newlife congregations . The Evangelical Reformed theologian Fritz Peyer-Müller joined the group in 1993; in 1995 he set up the study center in Bern and set up larger, future-oriented structures. A postgraduate course was introduced in 1997, and a year later a distance learning program was set up. From 2002 to 2017, Peyer was the rector of the training center. In 2003, the first study center in Germany was set up in Essen and a center for the master’s program was established in Olten. Missional theology has been taught since 2008, which emphasizes God's relational character and service to society more than classical evangelical theology has done so far. In the same year, Peter Müller's Columbans Revolution was the first volume to be published by Edition IGW. There have been courses in Austria since 2015. In 2017 Michael Girgis was appointed rector, IGW now has 350 students, 125 of whom were freshmen.
