Johannes Reimer (born January 28, 1955 ) is a Russian-German professor of missiology at the University of South Africa in Pretoria (UNISA), chairman of the Society for Education and Research in Europe and lecturer in missiology at the Ewersbach Theological University .

life and work

Johannes Reimer was born in a Soviet internment village for the German minority. As a pupil and student, he grew up atheist and was one of the leading cadres of the communist youth organization at the school. After discussions with Christians , whom he should dissuade from their faith, he turned himself to the Christian faith. After studying technology, Reimer was drafted into the military , where he refused to work with the weapon . As a result, he was mistreated several times by superiors and ultimately just barely survived an assassination attempt.

In 1976 he was allowed to travel to Germany with his family from the Soviet Union . He studied 1976–79 at the Wiedenest Bible School , 1981–83 at the Theological Seminary Hamburg-Horn , 1983–85 at the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary in Fresno , USA (now part of the Fresno Pacific University) and 1990–94 at the University of South Africa ( UNISA) in Pretoria. In 1994 he received his doctorate in theology from UNISA , where he has been Professor Extraordinarius for Missiology since 1995.

In 1997 Reimer was appointed associate professor for missiology at UNISA. He also teaches at the Wiedenest Bible School (2005-09), at the Institute for Community Building and World Mission (IGW), in the social transformation course at the Marburg Bibleseminar , at the Academy for Christian Leaders and since 2009 as a professor of missiology at the Theological University Ewersbach of the Federation of Free Protestant Congregations in Germany .

Reimer founded the mission organization LOGOS International in 1986 , of which he was director until 1998. From 1985 to 1987 he was pastor of the Evangelical Free Church in Lage (Lippe) , between 1979 and 1982 Pastor of the Evangelical Free Church in Crailsheim and most recently of the Evangelical Free Church of Brüchermühle , from whose service of elders he resigned at the beginning of 2008. From 2002 to 2017 he was Chairman of the Board of the Society for Education and Research in Europe . He was also a board member of the Oberberg Social Foundation, which promotes projects in the Oberberg area, and a member of the board of trustees of the ProChrist evangelical association , which organizes mass evangelizations . Since 2016 he has headed the Network for Peace and Reconciliation of the Worldwide Evangelical Alliance (WEA) and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Christian Media Foundation .

Johannes Reimer is married to the educationalist Cornelia Reimer, has three children and lives in Bergneustadt.
