Johannes Zimmermann (theologian)

Johannes Zimmermann (* 1965 in Dettingen am Albuch ) is a German theologian , pastor of the Württemberg regional church with a chair for practical theology at the Tabor Evangelical University in Marburg.

Live and act

Zimmermann studied Protestant theology from 1986 to 1992 in Tübingen , Jerusalem , Erlangen and Strasbourg . From 1992 to 1995 he completed his doctoral studies in Strasbourg and Tübingen and was then vicar of the Württemberg regional church in Dußlingen until his ordination in 1998 . In 1998 he was in Tübingen with one of Martin Hengel supervised dissertation on Messianic ideas in the written findings of Qumran , a study to investigate the early Jewish messianic expectation for Dr. theol. PhD . Then he was a research assistant at Martin Hengel in Tübingen until 2004.

From 2004 to 2010 he was the scientific and co-founding managing director and theological study director of the Institute for Research into Evangelism and Church Development in Greifswald. In 2005 he qualified as a professor at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald with his thesis on congregation between sociality and individuality: Challenges for the development of congregations in societal change, with which he gave an overview of current concepts on the topic of congregation in the ecumenical horizon and challenges for the Showed church building in social change. He then worked as a private lecturer in Greifswald before he was appointed adjunct professor for practical theology in October 2014. Between September 2010 and July 2017 he was the pastor in Endingen (Balingen) . Since August 2017 he has been professor of practical theology at the Tabor Evangelical University in Marburg.

Zimmermann is a member of scientific associations such as the German University Association , the German Society for Mission Studies and the Scientific Society for Theology . Since 2006 he has been working in the Theological Committee of the Missionary Services Working Group and in the Examination Committee of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church . Since 2007 he has been a member of the project group "(Re) entry" of the EKD Council. Between 1998 and 2010 he performed preaching assignments in Nehren , Belsen (Mössingen) and from 2005 in Lassan in Eastern Pomerania. He is a speaker at the church synod, at regional mission festivals and study days at the Albrecht Bengel House .

Private

Johannes Zimmermann is married to Heike Hoffmann. The couple has three children and lives in Marburg .
