Endingen is a district of the district town of Balingen in the Zollernalb district in the south of Baden-Württemberg .

history

While plowing a field in 1937, an Alemannic grave with a skeleton and grave goods was found in the “Goldäcker” corridor, 300 meters north of the former location at the southeastern foot of the “Hirn”.

middle Ages

Endingen was first mentioned in 793 as Eindeinga in a document from the Sankt Gallen monastery . The original local lords, whose castle probably stood near today's church, moved to Rottweil as early as 1250 , where they appeared as patricians and mayors. In the 14th century, the Söller von Endingen appeared as local lords who had been promoted to the Sankt Gallen administrative service. Their castle Endingen , long since gone , is believed to be on the Illisburg hill , northwest of today's Schlickkuchen residential area. Before 1373 the local rule came to the Counts of Zollern-Schalksburg and with the sale of this rule in 1403 to Württemberg . From then on Endingen belonged to the Balingen office .

Modern times

Endingen had around 160 inhabitants in 1545. In 1758 the office of Balingen, to which Endingen belonged, was elevated to the status of Oberamt Balingen and, from 1806, was expanded to become part of the Kingdom of Württemberg . In 1807 the population in Endingen reached 555, in 1820 it had already reached 739. By 1900 the proportion of the population fell to 536 and only reached the level of 1820 again in 1939. Endingen came to the district in 1934 and from 1938 to the district of Balingen .

20th century

Martin Luippold founds the first jersey industry in Endingen. In 1921, with the election of mayor, the right to vote for women was first introduced in Endingen. In 1930, at the request of 75 fire fighters, the volunteer fire department was founded in the Gasthaus zum Bahnhof . In 1933 a river swimming pool was set up in Endingen on the Steinach below the railway bridge, which was 100 m long and 1.5 m deep.

172 young men were drafted into military service during the Second World War. 54 of them fell and nine are still missing today. In the last weeks of the war Endingen was badly hit because of its location on the railway line to Ebingen. On April 3, 1945, on the instructions of the NSDAP, the residents of Endingen were to be evacuated, but they resisted the evacuation. In the late afternoon of April 20, Endingen was reached from the northeast by a French artillery unit and occupied without resistance. In 1946 the French troops were withdrawn and the first mayor after the war, Karl Fink, was elected. As the successor to Karl Fink, Artur Jenter was the last mayor of the community of Endingen from 1954 to 1971.

On August 1, 1971 Endingen was incorporated into Balingen.

traffic

Endingen is on the Balingen – Rottweil railway line . The railway line, which was dismantled in the Rottweil district and now only runs to Schömberg , is only used for freight trains and passenger transport in the form of a bike-hiking shuttle .

The town is crossed by the heavily trafficked Bundesstraße 27 , which separates large residential areas from church, official and school facilities. At the same time, it is the only full-fledged connection with Balingen, which leads to considerable traffic loads in the area of the main road. Since January 1, 2017, due to a new air pollution control plan on federal highway 27 within Endingen, Tempo 30 has been applied all day.

Established businesses

In the area of the train station there were various smaller commercial enterprises (including textile companies, furniture construction, fuel trading).
