Frommern is the second largest district of Balingen in the Zollernalb district in Baden-Württemberg . It lies at the foot of the Swabian Alb .
geography
Frommern is located around four kilometers southeast of Balingen in the Eyach Valley . The places Weilstetten, Balingen, Stockenhausen and Heselwangen are in close proximity to Frommern.
history
Frommern was first mentioned in 793 as Frumara in a document from the St. Gallen monastery . In the 9th century, the district around the Frohnhof and the St. Gallus Church belonged to the St. Gallen monastery. The second district, separated by a village stream (Bitzergraben), belonged to the Scherragrafschaft . However, since the 13th century at the latest, the manor had largely belonged to the Schalksburg rule and was therefore subject to the Counts of Zollern. On November 3, 1403, Frommern came to Württemberg with the sale of the Schalksburg estate by Count Friedrich V, known as Mülli .
Frommern was not affected by acts of war in the first half of the Thirty Years' War . But it suffered from the high tax burden and had to feed troops passing through. The cherry war also had no direct impact on the place. However, the defeat of the Swedes in September 1634 in the Battle of Nördlingen was devastating . Frommern was then at the mercy of the wandering soldiers, was looted and half of it was devastated. An extreme famine followed and in the autumn of 1635 the plague broke out. In Frommern the population loss was particularly large at 60 to 70%. The place was when the Kingdom of Württemberg was founded in the Oberamt Balingen .
Friedrich Erhard bought the former oil mill in 1889 and converted it into Frommern's first furniture factory. The mill owner Konrad Stotz started generating electricity in 1907 with the help of the water power of the Eyach and an additional steam engine. The surrounding towns were also connected to the power grid. With the availability of electricity, the furniture factories Gottlieb Münze, Jakob Münze and the Maier and Schwegler brothers were founded immediately before the First World War.
Frommern came to the Balingen district in 1934 and to the Balingen district in 1938 .
The Frommern concentration camp existed from 1944 to 1945 in order to extract fuel from oil shale as part of the desert company .
