Territory of Shear County

The Scherragrafschaft , so called since 854, is an early medieval territory which belonged to the Duchy of Swabia and emerged from the Baar . One also speaks of the Scherragrafschaft as Scherragau.

history

The name is derived from the Old High German scorra and probably refers to the rugged cliffs of the Danube and Schmeientals and the Balingen mountains . The borders coincided with old ecclesiastical administrative borders. The limits can also be determined using different systems of measurement. Until the 15th century the term Scheer was still widely used. The old boundaries also remained visible in the delimitation of the forest on the Scheer .

From the area of the Scherragrafschaft, the Counts of Hohenberg are the successors.
