Heinrich Lang (theologian)
Heinrich Lang (born November 14, 1826 in Frommern , near Balingen ; † January 13, 1876 in Zurich ) was a leading exponent of theological liberalism as an evangelical reformed pastor and theologian .
Life
Heinrich Lang was born the son of a Wuerttemberg priest. When he was ten years old, he went to the Latin school in Sulz am Neckar and four years later to the Schöntal monastery seminar . From 1844 he studied Protestant theology with Ferdinand Christian Baur in Tübingen , where he completed his theological studies at the Evangelical Monastery in 1848. As a student, Heinrich Lang became a member of the Nordland Association (now the Normannia Association ) in 1844 . As a popular speaker and energetic advocate of the republic, he had to leave the Kingdom of Württemberg and fled to Switzerland. After passing his exams in St. Gallen , he was elected pastor to the pulpit of Gretschins in Wartau on November 26, 1848 . He married Katharina Verena Konstantia Suter in Wildhaus SG on August 3, 1852. The couple had two sons and three daughters.
Pastor Heinrich Lang was known as a reformer and writer far beyond the borders of his homeland. In the spring of 1863 he was appointed pastor to Meilen on Lake Zurich and left the Wartau community on June 1. On March 5, 1871, Pastor Lang was elected to help Heinrich Hirzel at St. Peter (Zurich) , where he gave his inaugural sermon on April 23 and had to give the funeral sermon to his friend and comrade on May 2. He was now Hirzel's successor. As editor of “Zeitstimmen” and later of “Reform, Zeitstimmen aus der Reformierte Schweiz”, he was the real leader in the reform movement; He was supported by the writer and pastor Albert Bitzius (son) , the son of the great storyteller Jeremias Gotthelf . Heinrich Lang died on January 13, 1876 in Zurich.
