history
Engstlatt was first mentioned as Ingislatt in the first half of the 12th century . Since the 13th century, the place belonged to the Schalksburg lordship and came to Württemberg when they were sold in 1403 . Since then Engstlatt has belonged to the office and later to the Oberamt Balingen . In 1934 Engstlatt came to the district and in 1938 to the district of Balingen .
From 1944 to 1945 prisoners from the neighboring Bisingen concentration camp built Plant 3 of the Desert Company , which was supposed to be used to extract fuel from oil shale. However, the plant never went into operation.
