Post horn (heraldry)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The post horn is a common figure in heraldry and is found quite often in coats of arms .

A wind instrument is shown that differs from other horns such as the hip horn through a complete arc (extension of the air path between the mouthpiece and the sound outlet funnel) . It is predominantly in the tinctures / metals black, gold and silver. One or two tassels on a ribbon tied by the bow in a heraldically approved color can decorate the instrument.

Multiple representation in the sign or field is possible, but less common. The post horn can be a gem above or below the shield. In the upper coat of arms it is often only held by a human figure or the blowing of the horn is symbolized. When describing the coat of arms , the position of the post horn is determined by the mouthpiece. Heraldic right or left has been used in roughly the same way here.

The word part horn is suitable for a talking coat of arms .
