Ardmore ( Gaelic : An Aird Mhòr ) is a small settlement on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . It is located about twelve kilometers northeast of the Port Ellen ferry terminal and 600 m west of Cape Ardmore Point on the southeast coast of the island. Ardmore can be reached via a branch off the road that runs along the south coast from Port Ellen via Lagavulin to Ardtalla .
history
Ardmore itself consists of only a few houses. In 1841 only a family of seven named Campbell lived there . Ten years later the population had grown to 19 people. It is possible that the neighboring and now abandoned Ardmeinach was added to the village during this count .
In Ardmore, the remains of a historic round hut were uncovered. A few hundred meters southeast of Ardmore is a dun .
