Ardtalla ( Gaelic : Áird Talla ) is a small settlement on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . It is located approximately 14 km northeast of the Port Ellen ferry terminal and 17 km southeast of the island's capital Bowmore . Claggain Bay is a few hundred meters south . The place name is made up of the Gaelic words Áird for rock and Talla for place .
Ardtalla today consists only of a listed homestead called Ardtalla Farm . In 1841 there were still 58 people in Ardtalla, who were divided into ten families. Ardtalla can be reached by car. This is where the single-lane road ends, which leads from Port Ellen along the south coast via Lagavulin and Ardbeg and thus represents a continuation of the A846 . There is a standing stone in Ardtalla . This is 1.4 m high with a base area of 33 × 48 cm. A second nearby stone is described as insignificant.
