Michael Herbst

Michael Herbst (born April 2, 1955 in Bielefeld ) is a German Protestant theologian . He has been Professor of Practical Theology at the University of Greifswald since 1996 .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1975, Herbst studied Protestant theology at the Bethel Church University , the Georg-August University of Göttingen and the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . After successfully completing his studies, he worked from 1981 to 1984 as a research assistant with Manfred Seitz at the Institute for Practical Theology at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, where he received his doctorate in 1986 on missionary church development in the Volkskirche . From 1984 to 1992 Herbst was vicar and finally pastor of the Evangelical Matthew Congregation in Münster , Westphalia , from 1992 to 1996 hospital chaplain in the children's center in Gilead of the Von Bodelschwingh Foundation Bethel . Michael Herbst has been full professor for practical theology at the University of Greifswald since 1996 .

In 2004, together with Jörg Ohlemacher, he founded the institute for research into evangelism and community development in Greifswald and became the sole director of the institute after Ohlemacher retired. Michael Herbst is also a member of the board of trustees of the Theological Study House Greifswald and ProChrist . From April 2009 to 2013, Herbst was Vice-Rector of the University of Greifswald and responsible for studies. He is university preacher and disability officer at the university.

Herbst published mostly on questions of church structure , homiletics and medical ethics . He is co-editor of the professional journal Theological Contributions , member of the Theological Committee of VELKD and AMD , member of the International Research Consortium for Congregational Studies and Social Sciences and of the Academy for Ethics in Medicine.

Private

Michael Herbst is married and has four children.
