The German Society for Mission Studies (DGMW) is a non-profit association that promotes mission science research and projects.
History and activity
The DGMW was founded shortly before the end of the war in 1918 on the initiative of the Göttingen church historian Carl Mirbt by a small group of experts in Berlin. It was the world's first association of its kind. Between the world wars, it published two series of missions studies and promoted mission studies at universities. Since 1945, the DGMW has been able to expand its activities considerably by awarding scholarships, promoting publications and organizing conferences. In 1972 she played a key role in founding the International Association for Mission Studies (IAMS).
