The SINE Market and Social Research GmbH is a market and social research institute based Heidelberg . In addition to social science , psychological and market research , the company also offers management consulting services . history

The company was founded in 1978 in Heidelberg by the psychologists Dorothea and Horst Nowak.

Since the 1980s until today, the institute has been particularly known for the social and target group model of the so-called Sinus Milieus . Customers include numerous well-known companies and agencies, but also ministries, political parties, non-governmental organizations, associations, universities, research institutes and other public institutions. The measurement of the audience rating of television stations in Germany is nowadays linked to the Sinus-Milieus as standard, i. H. all test viewers have been classified accordingly and the broadcasters offer corresponding evaluations.

In addition to the use of the Sinus-Milieus in over 40 countries (so-called Sinus Meta-Milieus ), the institute has developed further segmentations such as the Digital Sinus-Milieus , the Sinus-Youth-Milieus , the Sinus-Geo-Milieus or the Sinus- Migrant milieus . In addition, the institute offers traditional market and social research services such as target group segmentation, brand analysis, development of communication and marketing strategies as well as strategic trend research or advice on organizational development. 

The Sinus: akademie , which is part of the company, gives lectures and conducts training courses and seminars for private and public clients. The consulting subsidiary Sinus: consult , based in Singapore, has specialized in international consulting .

In 2009 the majority stake in the company was taken over by Integral Markt- und Meinungsforschungs GmbH in Vienna. The institute has locations in Heidelberg, Berlin, Vienna and Singapore.
