ESOMAR

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Society for Opinion and Market Research (ESOMAR) is an international association for market research in Amsterdam .

According to its own information, the association has around 6550 members from over 130 countries and was founded in 1948.

In 1948, it published a professional code of conduct that was intended to underpin trust in market and opinion research . In 1977 the International Chamber of Commerce and ESOMAR published the ICC / ESOMAR International Code of Practice for Market and Social Research as a common standard . The standard is recognized internationally by over a hundred national market and social research associations.

For the revision of this code, undertaken in 2007 , it was proposed to allow data to be released under certain circumstances and thus to disclose anonymity with express consent ; Critics point to the need for anonymity to distinguish between demoscopy and direct marketing . The new code came into force on January 1, 2008.

“Even if individual participants in an investigation express the explicit wish that their data (also) be transmitted to the client in a non-anonymized form, this must not be complied with. In this case, the participants may only be given one contact address of the client, so that they can contact the client themselves if necessary. "
