World Association for Public Opinion Research

The World Association of Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) is an international scientific society for opinion researchers and communication scientists. The organization was founded in 1947 and currently has more than 500 members, some of whom come from private-sector opinion research institutes , some from public institutions such as statistical offices, and some from universities. The President of WAPOR in 2009/10 was the German Thomas Petersen from the Allensbach Institute for Demoscopy . Current president is Patricia Moy from the University of Washington in Seattle in place of Alejandro Moreno of Mexico . The Vice President (and the elected successor to the current President) is Claire Durand of the University of Montreal .

The subject of WAPOR's work are:

  • Development and implementation of scientific methods of survey research
  • Promote the implementation of surveys in all countries of the world
  • international cooperation in research, implementation and publication of surveys

The annual meetings took place until 2011, alternating annually in America (in collaboration with the American Association of Public Opinion Research (AAPOR)) and in Europe (in collaboration with ESOMAR ). Starting with the 2012 conference in Hong Kong , an annual conference is held every three years on a continent other than America and Europe. In addition, WAPOR organizes regional conferences and seminars on special topics of opinion research.

The journal of WAPOR the International Journal of Public Opinion Research (IJPOR), which is published quarterly in English.
