Hartmut Schmid (born October 3, 1956 in Holzgerlingen ) is a German Protestant theologian , pastor of the Württemberg regional church , chairman of the Liebenzeller community association , professor of the Old Testament at the Liebenzell International University and author of several specialist and non-fiction books.

Live and act

Schmid studied Protestant theology at the Universities of Tübingen and Heidelberg from 1977 to 1982 . Between 1987 and 1995 he was pastor of the Württemberg regional church in Baiersbronn and then until 2009 as head of studies for the Old Testament at the Albrecht Bengel House in Tübingen. Since 2009 he has been the first chairman of the Liebenzeller community association. In 2010 he received his doctorate with his dissertation on Elisa and Elia: a study of their relationship in the books of kings with special consideration of 2 Kings 2 at the Theological University in Kampen (Netherlands) as a doctor of theology . In this work he pursues the questions: Is Elisha an equal successor to Elijah in the prophetic office and does Elijah's spirit rest on him?

He has lectured at the Liebenzell International University (at that time still the theological seminar of the Liebenzeller Mission ) as a lecturer for the Old Testament and was appointed honorary professor for the Old Testament in 2015. He also teaches at the theological seminar of the Deaconess Mother House in Aidlingen .

Schmid is a member of the specialist working group Old Testament (FAGAT) in the working group for evangelical theology and between 1998 and 2014 was a member of the board of the Christ movement “Living Church” . He is co-author of their magazine Zuversicht und Strength and the author of several specialist and non-fiction books.

Private

Hartmut Schmid and his wife Elfriede have three children; they live in Holzgerlingen.
