history

In 1954, the state of Baden-Württemberg founded a forestry school in Schadenweilerhof near Rottenburg, which was converted into the forestry college in 1979 . Initially, the University of Applied Sciences only served as an "administrative training facility" for forest officials in the senior forest service of the states of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate , Saarland and the federal property administration . The university has been open to the public since 1995.

The university is located in Schadenweilerhof, about two kilometers south of the city near the Rammert . The village of Schadenweiler, which was donated to Hirsau Abbey around 1100, was located on the site until the 15th century . The village disappeared in the 15th century. In 1570 an aristocratic seat was built on the mark by Messrs Werner von Themar. During a siege in the 17th century, the noble residence was almost completely destroyed. Later it passed into the possession of the hospital and the city of Rottenburg. The courtyard burned down several times.

During the time of National Socialism, the SA-Hochschulamt Tübingen was the leaseholder of the farm. An SA school was set up. After the end of the Second World War, the property served as accommodation for French troops.
