history

The Villingen-Schwenningen University of Cooperative Education was founded in 1975 with 14 students as the third educational institution of its kind in Baden-Württemberg. As of March 1, 2009, like all vocational academies in Baden-Württemberg, it became part of the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University.

General

The Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs had already decided before the conversion to a dual university to equate accredited bachelor degrees from vocational academies with academic bachelor degrees from universities and technical colleges. The new status and clear positioning as a university are expected to provide an additional advantage. As of 2009, the Cooperative State University plans to offer Master’s courses in addition to the Bachelor’s degree. According to the dual concept, the new offers will only be organized on a part-time basis. The courses should take place in the evening or on the weekend.
