Kai Christian Handel (born March 5, 1966 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse ) is a German science manager. From 2006 to April 2014 he was President of the University of Applied Sciences Konstanz Technology, Economics and Design HTWG .

Life

Handel studied physics , philosophy and the history of natural sciences at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg with a degree in physics. In 1999 he was at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the RWTH Aachen with a thesis on semiconductor research and development to Dr. rer. nat. PhD . At the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences , he completed a part-time postgraduate course to become a university and science manager ( MBA ).

From 2001 to 2004 he was managing director of the Lower Saxony State University Conference . There he dealt in particular with service law , reform of the salary of professors , target agreements between the state and universities and the amendment of the University Act . He then worked for the Center for University Development CHE with a focus on salary regulations W , the reform of the capacity regulation and target agreements.

In April 2005, Kai Handel prevailed against 40 competitors in the election and confirmation by the University Council and Senate of the HTWG and was elected as the new President of the Konstanz University of Applied Sciences HTWG . He succeeded Olaf Harder on June 1, 2006 . In the new election in 2014 he was defeated by his opponent Carsten Manz , to whom he handed over the office on April 15, 2014.

Kai Handel has been a full-time Vice President at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences since April 2014 .
